The sort of outfit you’re never quite decided about, for its pleasures are found in unexpected places: in a dish of eggplant basil that is curiously devoid of basil (and that absolute basil aroma), in a tom kha gai that looks more like red curry, in a plateful of mixed vegetables that are more standard-issue Chinese than refined Royal Bangkok, and in pandan chicken so startling for doing everything right (because it’s easiest to bungle).

These are plebs pleasures, mind you, and I mean it in the nicest possible way—and ones that entirely befit the restaurant’s bright, college refectory aesthetics and friendly prices. Dishes to look forward to: crispy chicken in spicy Thai sambal (“Ruby Siam”), mussels of the same persuasion and shrimp paste fried rice, capped with mediocre though entirely pleasant traditional Thai desserts.
